Kleptik is an investigative intelligence newsroom exposing corruption, kleptocracy, money laundering, sanctions evasion and market fraud — following illicit wealth across borders. It is published by GCIRP, the Global Corruption Investigative Reporting Project, a non-profit.
Our mission
Illicit wealth crosses borders faster than any single jurisdiction can follow it. Kleptik exists to follow it anyway — aggregating official records, court filings, sanctions and enforcement actions, and original reporting into one public, searchable record, and to hold the powerful accountable through rigorous, sourced investigation.
Editorial standards
Every investigation is built from primary sources — corporate registries, court records, procurement data, leaked datasets, sanctions lists and regulatory filings — and independently cross-checked before publication. We put questions to those we name and publish their responses. We distinguish clearly between what records establish and what remains alleged. A sanctions listing, debarment or Interpol Red Notice is a public record, not a finding of guilt; people and entities are presumed innocent unless a court has ruled otherwise.
We label the provenance and licence of every item. Records aggregated from open data are marked as such and link back to the underlying source. Wire stories carry their originating outlet and link to the original; we republish full text only where the licence permits.
Corrections policy
We correct errors promptly and transparently. If you believe something we published is inaccurate, email corrections@kleptik.com with the URL and the specific issue. Substantive corrections are noted on the affected article. We do not remove accurate reporting on request, but we will update the record as facts develop.
How we verify
- Prefer primary documents over secondary reporting; obtain the underlying record wherever possible.
- Corroborate every material claim against at least one independent source.
- Trace entities through registries and beneficial-ownership data rather than relying on names alone.
- Give subjects a genuine opportunity to respond, and carry their response.
- Separate verified fact, public allegation, and our own analysis in the text.
Funding & independence
Kleptik takes no advertising from the industries it covers. The work is funded by members and by grants to GCIRP. Funders have no influence over editorial decisions or the timing of publication, and no funder reviews stories before they run. Membership payments are processed in cryptocurrency without third-party identity checks; we collect the minimum data needed to provide access.
