Anchorage tax preparer sentenced in $970K COVID relief fraud , identity theft case

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - An Anchorage tax preparer was sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison after admitting she used stolen identities and falsified documents to siphon almost $1 million in pandemic relief funds meant for struggling small businesses. Cheryl Labrie, 39, was sentenced to three point eight years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for one count of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. A federal judge also ordered her to repay the full $970,000 in restitution.
