Iran's oil minister Mohsen Paknejad has resigned, the president's office said in a statement on Sunday, amid long queues at petrol stations caused by the ongoing war and US sanctions. Government spokesperson Mehdi Tabatabaei told state TV later on Sunday that Paknejad, a member of President Pezeshkian's cabinet since August 2024, resigned for personal reasons "a long time ago." Hamid Bord, the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), "has been appointed as acting Minister of Oil by a decree from the president", according to a statement carried by Iran’s state media.
