Two years ago, me and my mate the Punter were cruising around New York and New Jersey and Pennsylvania talking to ordinary Americans in the days before the 2024 election. My heart thought the Democrats would win the White House. My head said otherwise. Trump won. But looking back, who called it right was never really the point. It was what we heard on the ground — a country divided, distrustful of its own institutions, and frustrated with where it was heading. Two years on, I care far more about what happens next. Because the 2026 midterms might be the most consequential American election I’ve watched in my lifetime. No White House this time. But Congress, yes — and that changes everything.
